Amidst the burgeoning public school system since India's independence in 1947, the DPSS came into being as a non-profit making body. It established its first school in 1949 at Mathura Road, New Delhi. Today DPSS has become an educational organization to be reckoned with, professing to be a premier centre for teaching, learning, innovation and research. It is today, reputed for its progressive approach, commitment and a well-designed integrated curriculum for pursuit of excellence. DPSS promotes the growth of mind and body through quality education; an objective that is reflected in its motto 'Service Before Self'.
In the light of consistent success, the Society received requests to set up similar schools abroad and make them a part of the larger infrastructure. Crossing the 100th milestone, DPSS has established a chain of schools in India and abroad. Under the constant encouragement and creative guidance of the Management of DPSS, we have come a long way in spreading the DPS banner across international borders to other countries like Nepal, Indonesia, Kuwait, Dubai, Sharjah, Doha, Baharain, Riyadh, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Dhaka, Singapore .
Many factors have played a vital role in the creation of this epitome of quality education - The vision and foresight of the pioneers, the total involvement and professional interest of the serving Board of Directors, the appointment of outstanding Principals to steer each school in the right direction, and the committed faculty. These characteristics have placed the DPS Society on the forefront of the educational map of India and abroad.

Shri B.K. Chaturvedi (IAS, Rtd) is an eminent Indian Civil Servant who has risen to the highest position in the Civil Service as the Cabinet Secretary and has made major contributions in policy making and its implementation. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan on 7th April, 2010 by the President of India for his outstanding contributions in the field of civil service. In recognition of his work in the field of Public Administration, Shri Chaturvedi was conferred with Honoris Causa (D.Sc.) by Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad (Jharkhand) on 5th April, 2012.Currently, Shri Chaturvedi is serving as Member, Planning Commission of India and heads Energy and Transport division in the Planning Commission. He is responsible for addressing policy issues concerning power, petroleum, railways, road, road transport, shipping ports, inland water transport and civil aviation for improving efficiency and making these sectors more responsive to the present and future requirement of India. Earlier Shri B.K. Chaturvedi was appointed Member of the 13th Finance Commission (Nov. 2007). As Cabinet Secretary, he was also Member of the Atomic Energy Commission and Space Commission of India. Shri Chaturvedi has written several papers in the field of public administration and governance. He has travelled extensively and represented India in international fora, including Boards of UNICEF and UNDP.
An erudite scholar, Shri. B.K. Chaturvedi has authored two books and published several papers in national and international journals in the field of planning, energy, transport and public administration.
