Beyond Algorithms: 10th Edition of TEDxYouth@DPSMIS Inspires Innovation and Human-Centered Progress 2024

DPS Modern Indian School hosted the 10th edition of TEDxYouth@DPSMIS on December 15, 2024, with the theme “Beyond Algorithms,” celebrating ideas that transcend boundaries and redefine possibilities for progress, fresh perspectives, and sustainable solutions that promote environmental responsibility and global stewardship. The event was honoured by the presence of H.E. Md. Nazrul Islam, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the State of Qatar, H.E. Mr. Farhan Al Sheikh, Chief Guest Mr. Sonny Varghese, Director DPS MIS, members of the DPSMIS Executive Committee, and other distinguished dignitaries. The Chief Guest Mr. Sonny Varghese, Director, DPS Modern Indian School, underscored the importance of effective communication and eloquence as key tools in achieving meaningful success, which is measured not by accolades, but by personal fulfilment and the profound impact one leaves on others.

The event featured five eminent speakers: Dr. Avantika Tomar, Partner, Education, EY -Parthenon India , Mr. Kavach Khanna, Student Mentor, Educator & Content Creator, Mr. Mohammed Al-Qassabi, Senior Security Data Scientist, Qatar Energy & Head of AI & Robotics, Qatar Scientific Club, Mr. Ali Al-Naama, Corporate Strategy Director at Manateq & Sustainability Leader, and Mr. Aditya Jain, House Captain, DPS Modern Indian School, Author & Aspiring Economist, who explored the intricate relationship between technology and humanity and encouraged attendees to go beyond the surface of technological advancements and reflect on their broader societal and ethical implications.

Dr. Avantika Tomar, Partner, Education, EY -Parthenon India
Dr. Avantika Tomar emphasized the importance of breaking free from conventional career paths, illustrating her journey from IT to earning a PhD in management and becoming a partner at EY-Parthenon. She urged the audience to not let obstacles stifle their passions. By introducing the concept of ikigai, she encouraged young people to redefine success, reminding them that life transcends algorithms and should be shaped by individual choices.
Mr.Ali Al Naama, Corporate Strategy Director at Manateq & Sustainability Leader
Mr. Ali Al Naama explored the transformative impact of the digital revolution, particularly in tourism, sharing his insights from personal experiences in the sector. He highlighted the crucial role of digitization and AI, citing examples like Disney to illustrate successful implementations. Through discussions on smart resource allocation and technology’s integration in travel, he provided attendees with a broader understanding of how AI can enhance their experiences and reshape industries.
Mr.Kavach Khanna, Student Mentor, Educator & Content Creator
Mr. Kavach Khanna shared his inspiring journey of guiding young students facing self-doubt. He highlighted the dangers of comparing oneself to numerical metrics, likening these to internal algorithms that limit potential. Kavach encouraged the audience to challenge these self-imposed restrictions and to embrace their unique paths. His message resonated strongly, reminding everyone that personal growth transcends conventional measures of success.

Returning for the 10th edition of TEDxYouth@DPSMIS, Mohammed Al Qassabi delivered an inspiring talk about resilience. He recounted his journey from being a footballer to innovating solutions that integrate algorithms, despite facing criticism and setbacks. His perseverance led to recognition and success, encouraging attendees to break through their limitations. Mohammed’s story underscored the importance of pursuing passions relentlessly and believing in one’s ideas, regardless of external doubts.
Mr.Aditya Jain, House Captain, DPS Modern Indian School, Author & Aspiring Economist
Aditya Jain shared his transformative experience of writing a book during the pandemic, seizing the opportunity to change his narrative when the world paused. He emphasized the idea of “thinking inside our box,” encouraging peers to define and construct their own paths. Through perseverance and outreach to publications, Aditya illustrated how determination can turn dreams into reality, inspiring the audience to pursue their aspirations despite setbacks.

Through their insightful words and personal journeys, they inspired the audience to think inside the box, embrace challenges, venture beyond the conventional paths, and pursue their goals with conviction. Their narratives served as a poignant reminder that the road to success is rarely linear, but with resilience and passion, aspirations can be transformed into reality. Through insightful discussions on artificial intelligence, human creativity, and social impact, the speakers critically examined the role of algorithms in shaping today’s world and pointed out the necessity of balancing analytical precision with human-cantered approaches to promote sustainable and inclusive development.

Principal Ms. Asna Nafees, speaking at the 10th Edition of TEDxYouth@DPSMIS, highlighted its significance as Qatar’s longest youth-led event platform, amplifying the transformative power of young voices. She commended the speakers for their inspiring ideas and emphasized the importance of visionary leadership in igniting a constructive change. She also celebrated the school’s exceptional achievement of receiving a five-year accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, setting a benchmark of excellence.

The 10th edition of TEDxYouth@DPSMIS was a resounding success, showcasing the school’s dedication to providing a platform for young minds to share their ideas and inspire others. The guest speakers were presented with mementos as a mark of appreciation and gratitude. TEDxYouth@DPSMIS continues to be a beacon of hope and innovation, inspiring us to look beyond the algorithms and embrace the limitless potential of the human spirit. The electrifying musical presentation by the budding talents set the tone for the day. The e-newsletter, capturing the highlights of the occasion was released. The event was led by the Student Council 2024-25 under the guidance of Principal Ms.Asna Nafees and Vice Principal Senior Secondary School & Head of Activities, Ms. Soma Bhattacharjee.
